Narrative Poem

Technology

It was September third, 2013.

I arrived at work and my boss tells me that

He is letting me go because I have been replaced by a machine.

That was the most shocking day of my life.

I arrived back at my house with nothing to do.

With nothing to do I decide to watch TV, play on my playstation,

and check my facebook status for the past month. So for the past several months

I notice that something just doesn’t feel right with me.

I feel… DEPRESSED……… and I ran out of glee.

Some days I just sit there in my chair

staring into space with nothing to do thinking of how I arrived there.

Because of this problem that I have I decided

to go and see a doctor.

The doctor tells me that I have come

down with a case of depression

and LOW SELF ESTEEM.

With depression… and low self esteem what can this mean?

I have noticed that I haven’t been real social with

people since I lost my job. What has happened to me?

Technology has ruined my life! I asked myself

“Does technology really help us?”

The answer to this questions is NO; technology

is hurting us as Americans and we need to fix this

MONSTER that we have created.

  1. Hey Joe, I liked this poem a lot. I think you did a great job on it and I really like your background; I just want to stare at it. Do you think that technology can 'grow' and not take our jobs without the machines taking it?
